Abstract

Preparing feed pellets from locally cultivated black soldier fly larvae (BSFL; Hermetia illucens) requires practical knowledge of how to handle and process feed ingredients. This programme aimed to strengthen community capacity to prepare supplementary feed pellets from black soldier fly larvae in Giwangan, Yogyakarta. Guided by participatory action research, the team provided a pellet-making machine and delivered demonstrations and supervised practice for 25 participants in July 2026. Evaluation used a 12-item post-training questionnaire and group production records. All participants returned questionnaires, with 88% positive responses on each item, exceeding the 80% target. The group reported producing approximately 100 kg per weekly batch. Limited larval availability and difficulties in milling and pellet formation remained constraints. Continued technical mentoring and production planning are recommended to support sustained equipment use.
