The application of automation and artificial intelligence (AI) in the maritime industry drives operational efficiency, but increases risks related to seafarer competence, decision-making, safety, and human-machine interaction. This research aims to identify relevant human-centered maritime operations strategies to support the safe and effective use of automation and AI. The research method used a systematic literature review based on PRISMA 2020 against 2020–2025 publications on Scopus, Web of Science, and ScienceDirect. Of the 214 recordings identified, 25 articles met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed through thematic synthesis. The results show that digital competency training, human-in-the-loop design, system transparency, human supervision, and risk management are strategies. These findings underscore the importance of a human-centered approach to improving the safety, operational reliability, and readiness of the maritime workforce for digital transformation.
